We had a wonderful time attending the Gene Therapy in Paediatrics 2026 at NIHR Great Ormond Street Hospital Biomedical Research Centre, an event that provided comprehensive insight into the evolution of gene therapy technologies, long-term effects, and the latest advancements, with a particular focus on applications in paediatric care.

Our Co-Founder and President, Barbara Yu, was invited to join the panel discussion in the session “Adverse Events and Horizon Scanning in Gene Therapy for Paediatrics”. The panel was chaired by Julien Baruteau (UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health), with Rebecca Jeyaraj (University of Birmingham & the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health) and Claudiu Cozmescu (UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health) as other panel speakers. Barbara shared how patient organisations support patients and families in navigating the decision-making process in gene therapy.

It was an inspiring and informative event, bringing together patients, clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates. We are particularly grateful to Julien Baruteau for kindly inviting us to take part in the panel, and to Paul Gissen and the team for organising such an informative and warmly welcoming event.
